Few things are more life-affirming for trans-women than the ability to present yourself to the world as you want to be seen, to feel as though the world has seen the real you. But there are unique challenges for trans-women looking to learn techniques of makeup, hair and dressing. YouTube tutorials are predominately geared towards a cis-female audience and those aimed at an AMAB (assigned-male-at-birth) audience are drag-oriented, which can be too over-the-top for a day look. Where do trans-women learn the skills they need?

At BeUties we offer one-on-one tutorials. Our resident makeup expert shows you how to do your makeup. She explains your facial topography. We show you––on your face––how to contour in order to feminize your features. We film the session so you can rewatch it later and replicate the work. Next, we take glamour shots in our home studio. Who doesn’t need headshots and profile pics?

We’ll be posting the glamour shots to instagram (@beauties.trans.services) with guided tutorials taking our audience through part of our work and thought process. It is our intention that the web format becomes a pedagogical space for a growing trans population.
