These projects refuse linearity. They don’t begin and end so much as surface, recede, and resurface—taking form through slow, recursive acts of making and thinking.
Most recently, Sadie Pins has been investigating glamour and camp as performance strategies, drawing on mid-century drag’s lineage of spoken-word albums and vaudevillian comedy routines.
Sadie Pins began to explore how her ethos of resistance in drag—her insistence on self-determined style and process—could be reimagined within the disciplinary frame of pageantry and its codified ideals of excellence. The balance was struck by inserting a live classical guitar performance within a space more traditionally dominated by lip-syncs and choreographed dance.
